Originating from pop mecca Los Angeles, California, the eclectic conceptual trio Junk Wave is set to strike a chord with listeners of various tastes and persuasions. In particular, those with a knack for music that doesn’t take itself so seriously.
Junk Wave’s debut single, “Dirty Fat Burger,” may appear tongue-in-cheek, but it arouses reflection on subject matter that people have to swallow daily in today’s image and health-conscious environment. The track’s overweight sub kick paired with sultry, sweet vocals taunt the listener to teeter on that thin line between the pleasure of indulgence and the price to pay for it afterwards.
One way to look at “Dirty Fat Burger” is a borderline SNL skit. Another way is to see it as social commentary about food and the way women and men, particularly in America, relate to it. “Dirty Fat Burger” released independently on July 13, 2018. The song is available on iTunes, Spotify, and SoundCloud, and the official music video is on YouTube.
Junk Wave was born out of the desire to deliver highbrow messages with humor, sexiness, and lowbrow beats. It's the brainchild of three notable and beloved Angelenos — a producer, a vocalist, and a visual artist/multi-instrumentalist — who choose to remain anonymous so as to keep the focus on the experimental nature of the project, both musically and in testing what’s socially digestible these days.
